Earth Minutes Takeover: Rewilding Resilience
As winter begins to loosen its grip on the landscape, there is a subtle shift in energy. The first signs are easy to miss. A lengthening day. A birdsong heard a little earlier in the morning. New shoots emerging where only weeks ago the ground appeared dormant. It is tempting to think of these moments as the beginning of something new, but in truth they are part of a much longer cycle.
As Earth Minutes reaches the end of its fifth year, we found ourselves reflecting on this idea. For the past few years, our annual retreat to Elmore Wild has marked an important pause in the calendar for the team. A chance to step away from the day to day rhythm of projects and deadlines and spend time together. Morning walks through the landscape gave way to long lunches and shared feasts. Some of us embraced a wild swim in the lake, followed by warming spells in the sauna. Others found slower moments through crafting, conversation and simply being present with our community.
This year’s gathering was shaped by the ideas explored in Katie Hodgetts’ new book, Act, Rest, Rest, Repeat
The book invited us to reconsider our relationship with resilience, and see it not as an endless capacity to keep going but as a cycle where the value of action and recovery are equally recognised. Reading it together surrounded by a landscape that embodies these same principles felt particularly fitting. Across rewilded land, the appearance of stillness often conceals important work taking place beneath the surface.
Inspired by Katie’s work, we created resilience journals to accompany us through the year ahead, where we can pay closer attention to the cycles that shape our own lives and work. As we look ahead to the next chapter of Earth Minutes, we do so feeling grateful for the opportunity to gather, rest and to reconnect with both nature and each other.
A huge thank you to the team at Elmore Wild for welcoming us into their magical space and for supporting our teams’ rest & reset.
We’ll see you next year!
